Good & Proper Tea founder, Emilie Holmes, began her career at Ogilvy & Mather where she worked with Dove, Hellmanns and Toblerone. As many tea lovers would agree, the quality of the tea can make and break a mood and this triggered Holmes to launch her business via Kickstarter and seeking the funds to fit out of her 1974 Citroën-H van into a mobile brew bar.
Her Kickstarter gig reached £14,682 in 5 days. The first site is based in Shoreditch with a Soho branch opening in early 2016! With 165 million cups of tea drank every day in the UK, the quality of tea can vary, such as the type of milk used, amount of milk, whether it is brewed from a tea bag or loose leaves.
Most of the tea we drink in the UK are low-grade black tea that has been cut, crushed and torn in order to produce quick colour and strength, however, the quality is different with Good & Proper. The teas are produced using ‘orthodox’ production method, which ensures the leaves are handled with care which ensures their delicate flavours are intact. The unique brewing system – the visually arresting craft brewing technology of Steampunk, which offers improved flavour, a faster brew time and showcases the brewing process in an entirely distinctive way.
Fancy something different than the usual breakfast or afternoon tea? Good & Proper has an extensive collection of black, green, oolong and white teas and for the first time, herbs. For a quick pick-me-up, Matcha Latte is also on the tea menu, with a choice of regular milk or coconut milk.
You cannot have tea without biscuits, but what if there are other choices? There is a full sweet and savoury crumpet menu. Working with Kitchen Cooperative duo, Ben & Georgia and Helly you can now try Classic Sourdough, Rye and even a Gluten Free Crumpet with a number of selection of toppings from Lime Curd to even Marmite & Cheese.
Why not give Good & Proper Tea a try the next time you are nearby? They are open Monday – Friday from 8am to 6pm and Saturdays from 10am to 4pm.
