Building an art collection is an experience that can be both rewarding and enriching. It can however be a daunting task and one that many are unsure about. We’ve got some top tips for you though to help get you started. The first thing, which may seem obvious, is to simply buy something that you genuinely like. Buying something purely as investment is risky at times so finding works you like can both be rewarding and give you a better understanding of the market. Making sure you keep up to date with auctions and trends is also important as this gives you an idea of value. Make sure you ask the price, as many dealers will not display the price up front, the key here is they want you to ask. Research what you’re planning to buy. Just like internet shopping most people compare prices before they make a big purchase. Have a budget and start slow, many collections start small so take your time.
